Greg Majewski How did Horrendous produce a sequel to one of 2014’s finest death metal albums so quickly? Not only that, how did they make it better? Did they melt down their Individual Thought Patterns, Symbolic and Testimony of the Ancients LPs and inject the resulting sludge straight into their bloodstreams? The songwriting in Anareta is on a level of sophistication rarely matched in modern death metal.

Atanamar Sunyata Evolution complete; a beast has been born before our very eyes. Beyond SweDeath towards a singular, spectacular vision. Sweet riffs dominate fluid dynamics; these guys make it look too easy. All the goddamned leads.

Scott Curtis Album of the year, no contest. Everything you want in a death metal record, and nothing you don't. It's pretty damn near perfect. These guys are the new heavyweights in the genre.

about

Horrendous' third full-length album. Cover art by Brian Smith. Produced at Subterranean Watchtower Studios in the summer of 2015.

We are all very proud of the album and feel it is our best work to date. While our composition process has always been spread out over several separated writing-specific sessions, one thing that separates Anareta from our past work is our recording process. We recorded all the songs over one continuous period (the recording sessions for The Chills and Ecdysis were more spread out)–Matt and Jamie stayed at Damian’s house/studio for weeks on end and the three of us lived, breathed and dreamed of nothing but the album during that time. It was our entire lives for over a month (two months if you include the mixing and mastering stage), and we think this complete dedication to the record is one of the factors that really made it turn out so well. There was a lot of magic in the air once we finished the foundation of the record, and each day we built off of the prior day’s creative energies and inspirations until it bloomed into something immense.

about

Horrendous Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Horrendous was conceived in the womb of early 2009 by three young men obsessed with metal. Aiming to harness the mystique and aura of their favorite music while simultaneously rekindling the flame of a genre they felt was losing traction, the band emerged from a desolate scene to chart an unfamiliar path into the depths. ... more
